Audra Schwartz represents businesses, executives, and professionals in complex business disputes, employment matters, and commercial transactions throughout New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area. Her practice focuses on helping business owners and management protect their companies, resolve disputes efficiently, and make sound legal decisions that support long-term business growth. 

Corporate Counsel and Commercial Transactions

As a trusted advisor to business owners, Audra counsels clients on a wide range of operational and transactional issues. She regularly advises companies on employment issues, negotiates and drafts employment related agreements and other business contracts, and handles commercial real estate and leasing matters, including complex commercial lease negotiations and commercial lease disputes in New Jersey and New York. She also assists clients with construction lien rights, business sales and acquisitions, and disputes between business partners and shareholders.

Business Litigation Attorney

Audra is also an experienced New Jersey and New York business litigation attorney, representing clients in state and federal courts, mediations and arbitration, in matters involving business contract disputes, partnership and shareholder conflicts, real estate litigation, construction disputes, and management-side employment litigation. Her litigation practice is focused on protecting the interests of business owners and resolving disputes that threaten business stability or profitability.​

Employment Attorney

In the employment arena, Audra serves as a management-side employment attorney for New Jersey and New York businesses, defending employers in workplace disputes and advising companies on employment law compliance and risk management. Her work includes disputes involving employment agreements, restrictive covenants, workplace policies, employee separations, discrimination and whistleblower claims.

Audra also represents executives and professionals in connection with their employment arrangements. Drawing on her experience representing both businesses and management, she helps clients negotiate and finalize employment agreements, non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, and separation agreements. Audra ensures that executives understand the long-term impact of employment terms and restrictive covenants so they are protected when they accept a position and when they transition to a new opportunity. When executives and professional face claims for breach of non-competition and non-solicitation obligations, Audra zealously defends her clients.

Before entering private practice, Audra served as Assistant General Counsel and later General Counsel for a group of related corporations. This in-house experience gives her a practical understanding of business operations and the real-world challenges business owners face. As a result, she provides strategic legal advice that aligns with the operational and financial realities of running a company.

Judicial Role

Audra serves as Town Justice in Monroe, NY, an elected position she has held since 2018. As Town Judge, Audra presides over landlord/tenant evictions, small claims, town ordinance violations, misdemeanor and petty offenses, and has felony arraignment jurisdiction. She is also the Secretary of the Orange County Magistrates Association, a role she took on after four years of serving as President and Vice President. Audra also served four years as lead coordinator of the Orange County Centralized Arraignment Part. She created and continues to teach the Orange County Centralized Arraignment Part Procedures course to local magistrates and court clerks.

Professional Contributions

Audra is the co-author of “What You Need to Know About Construction Liens,” published in New Jersey Lawyer. She frequently speaks on legal topics including as a panelist for the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education's seminar "Interaction of the New Jersey Workers’ Compensation Act with New Jersey State and Federal Employment Laws" and to various local business organizations on "Common Mistakes Small Businesses Should Avoid".

Prior to being elected to the Bench, Audra served the Town of Monroe, NY as Planning Board Chairperson, Planning Board member, and Conservation Commission member, further expanding her experience with real estate and development issues.

Audra is licensed to practice in New Jersey and New York. She is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, NJSBA Labor and Employment Section, the Orange County NY Bar Association, the Orange County Magistrates Association and Women Lawyers in Bergen County. Audra earned her undergraduate degree from Lafayette College and her Juris Doctor from Pace University School of Law.
